Flux and Emerson provide automation package for P-56

Fluxo, together with the Rosemount and Fisher divisions of Emerson Process Management, will supply an instrumentation package consisting of pressure and temperature transmitters, radar level gauges and control valves for Petrobras' Platform P-56.

The P-56 is a clone of the P-51, on which Emerson has already supplied the transmitters, radars and a small part of the valves. For the P-56, Emerson will supply all the control valves, pressure and temperature transmitters, radars and HART configurators. In this way, all platform instrumentation can be monitored by Emerson's AMS asset management system, also included in this supply.

There will be around 500 transmitters responsible for monitoring pressure, differential pressure, level by pressure and temperature and 97 control valves with Fisher intelligent positioner. All instruments are prepared to work with AMS, which will provide a complete diagnosis of their health. Many of the pressure transmitters have special seals, and all temperature transmitters were supplied with thermowells and sensors manufactured in Brazil.

In the package, there are control valves for severe applications, which will control processes with a very high level of cavitation, with special construction materials such as super duplex and aluminum bronze. It was also necessary to apply special Bettis actuators for Linear valves model GVO. These actuators are capable of controlling valves with stem travel between 2" and 26".

The P-56 will utilize Rosemount Guided Wave Radar Level Gauges for measurement at key process points. There will be 67 level meters for the most diverse types of application such as: oil separator vessels, condensate vessels, flash vessels, surge vessels, among others. Applications include equipment for different pressure ranges, products and temperatures, proving the flexibility and versatility of the equipment. The instruments are 4-20 mA with digital HART protocol, which allow for extensive diagnostic capabilities, especially with Emerson's AMS platform for asset management.

The P-56 will be located in the Marlim Sul field, in the Campos Basin, in waters 1,700 meters deep and approximately 124 km from the coast. The P-56 will have a production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day and 6 million cubic meters per day of natural gas. The decision to use the P-51 project as the basis for the new platform will allow Petrobras to start using it in 2010.
