Social Responsibility - Certification one-step flow
Fluxo Petróleo is in the final stretch of the process to obtain certification in the international standard SA8000 - Social Responsibility. The procedures adopted in search of certification, scheduled for mid-May, such as interviews, courses, training, audits, have already aroused the interest of employees in all offices for the fundamentals that guide SA: valuing the individual and the respect to the human being.
SA 8000 is an international standard aimed at improving working conditions, covering actions to ensure workers' basic human rights and provide a better quality of life for employees, families and the community. The SA norm is based on ideals created by the UN, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
To be considered socially responsible, the certified company needs to fulfill its legal obligations with the competent bodies and, more than that, share the principles of social responsibility among its employees, disseminating them as a corporate culture. Compliance with the rules ensures the creation of employment opportunities for young people, respect for the rights of children and adolescents, equality between human beings and the possibility of safe and healthy work for all its employees.
At Fluxo, SA8000 encourages more transparent internal relationships. Márcio Carvalho, employee representative for SA8000, already perceives the benefits brought during the implementation of the standard, mainly as an efficient communication channel between employees and management: “employees have been forming a culture of questioning and conquering their rights. The suggestion box has already received more than 30 requests since its implementation in November last year”, says Márcio. One factor that ensures the effectiveness of this procedure is that the suggestions are necessarily analyzed by the responsible person and answered to the requester.
“The implementation of the SA is a challenge on how to ensure that the requirements of the standard are met, not only to optimize the company's financial results, but also to provide well-being and quality of life to the people involved”, adds Antônio Santos, management representative for SA8000.
The year 2006 began with 763 companies certified all over the world, among 47 countries. In Brazil, 82 companies have already obtained the title of Socially Responsible Companies. Among them, only seven are located in Bahia. The next one will be Flow.
