Chemtec: pioneer in biodiesel injection in Brazil

Fluxo and Chemtec Energy Services will supply the first biodiesel injection systems to BR Distribuidora. The acquisition of BR comes from the new legislation that will require the blending of biodiesel in diesel oil. Initially, the measure is voluntary. As of 2008, all diesel sold in Brazil must contain a proportion of biodiesel, starting with 2%, until reaching 5% in 2013.

The first units supplied by the Fluxo and Chemtec partnership aim to meet the need to inject 2% of biodiesel into diesel oil. For this case, the systems are of the “dumb” type, controlled by the electronic predeterminers existing in the terminal. Systems for the injection of 5% of biodiesel will also be supplied, however, these units already come with their own electronic controller, for use in terminals without automation.

Chemtec is a young company, founded in 1999, but its technological know-how predates its creation. Chemtec inherited the expertise of Titan Industries, a company that was once among the two largest manufacturers of additive injection equipment in the world. Many of the key people at Chemtec today come from this company, including its current president and CEO, Gary Williams, former president of Titan for 12 years. Gary is an inventor and has registered patents for several products, including the first intelligent additive injector. Chemtec supplies additive injection systems to the oil industry in both downstream and upstream segments.
