Integrated Biogas Upgrading System (ORCA)

Manufacturing: Quadrogen Power Systems

Quadrogen offers a complete solution for recovering biomethane from various biogas sources, such as landfills and agricultural digesters. The ORCA ("Optimized Reduced Cost Arrangement") system was developed to overcome the challenge of purifying raw biogas, which contains impurities such as carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), sulfur compounds, and siloxanes. By removing these contaminants, the system transforms an environmental liability into a valuable energy asset: biomethane.

How it works

The IBUS ORCA process is simple and efficient, divided into four steps:

  1. Pre-treatment: the feed biogas is directed to a pre-treatment system to remove impurities such as sulfur, siloxanes, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  2. Compression: the biogas is compressed by a high-efficiency rotary compressor before being sent to the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) system.
  3. PSA System: Biogas is upgraded for use in natural gas pipelines. In this process, O2, N2, and CO2 are adsorbed, resulting in biomethane.
  4. Vacuum blower: this module is responsible for extracting contaminants captured in the adsorption bed and facilitating the ventilation of the PSA exhaust stream.

applications

The biomethane produced by the IBUS ORCA system can be used in a variety of high value-added applications. Gas purification allows it to meet the stringent specifications for injection into natural gas pipelines, used for fleet refueling or in industrial processes.

Technical specifications

The IBUS ORCA system is modular and available in different operating ranges to meet a variety of flow and pressure needs.

  • Models and flow ranges (Nm³/h): CHUM: 8 - 300 Nm³/h, KOKANEE: 300 - 2500 Nm³/h and CHINOOK: 2500 - 6000 Nm³/h
  • Supply pressure (PSIG): up to 400 PSIG

Advantages of the Integrated Biogas Upgrading System

  • Complete (turnkey) solution: the IBUS ORCA is a "plug and play" package, designed to be easy to install, operate and maintain.
  • High efficiency: the system offers market-leading performance, with methane recovery rates of up to 99%
  • Low operating cost: the process requires minimal use of consumables and utilities.
  • Compact design: with an optimized design, the system has a reduced footprint.
  • Simplified operation: the layout was designed for optimal functionality and ease of use, and can be operated automatically or manually.

Certifications and compliance

The IBUS ORCA system produces biomethane that meets stringent specifications for use in pipelines and as vehicle fuel, ensuring compliance with industry quality and safety standards.
