Intrusive Ultrasonic Meter

Ultra 8c

Ultrasonic Meter Ultra 4c

Manufacturing: Guidant Measurement, Smith Meter® brand

The Ultra 4c Ultrasonic Liquid Meter is a four-transducer-pair meter designed for Fiscal and Custody Transfer measurement of low- to medium-viscosity crude oil and refined products. Featuring advanced multi-path measurement technology, the Ultra 4c accurately resolves complex flow profiles while maintaining exceptional linearity and repeatability across a wide range of operating conditions. Ideal for compact installations, the equipment exceeds the most demanding industry specifications.

How it works

The Ultra 4c calculates flow by measuring the transit time of ultrasonic sound signals traveling back and forth through the moving fluid. Signal transmission and detection are performed by piezoelectric transducers located on both sides of the measurement path. Flow velocity is calculated from the transit times, and these velocities are integrated to determine the total volumetric flow rate through the meter. The transducers are non-intrusive and mounted flush, ensuring low maintenance requirements and no obstructions to the full flow passage through the pipeline.

applications

  • Fiscal measurement (custody transfer) at oil and fuel terminals
  • Long-distance pipeline and pipeline monitoring systems
  • Offshore installations and harsh environments

Technical specifications

  • Available sizes: from 4” to 30”
  • Measurement technology: ultrasonic transit time with up to 4 channels
  • Repeatability: +/- 0.02%
  • Linearity: +/- 0.15% considering the manufacturer's recommended installation
  • Body Materials: Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel or as per customer specification
  • Transducers: built-in or clamp-on (depending on application)
  • Output signal: pulses, 4-20 mA, Modbus RTU, HART, Ethernet (Modbus TCP/IP optional)
  • Recommended assembly according to the image below:

Advantages of the Ultra 4c Meter

  • No moving parts: greater durability and zero mechanical wear
  • High precision and stability: even with fluid and temperature variations
  • Flexible installation: compatible with various piping configurations and no need for long straight runs
  • Low maintenance cost: does not require frequent calibration or mechanical intervention
  • Versatility: ideal for viscous liquids or liquids with suspended solids

Certifications and compliance

  • Classified area approvals: INMETRO / UL Brazil, ATEX, IECEx and UL/CUL
  • Metrological Certifications: Inmetro/Dimel Ordinance No. 276, of November 18, 2021, OIML R117-1, MID (European Union) and WELMEC 7.2
  • API Compliance Chapter 5.8
  • In accordance with API MPMS Chapter 4.8, Table A-1, for average gauge factor uncertainty of +/- 0.027%
  • Laboratory Accreditation: NVLAP (National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program) according to ISO/IEC 17025
  • Applicable Standards: API MPMS (Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards), PED (Pressure Equipment Directive)

Ultrasonic Meter Ultra 8c

Manufacturing: Guidant Measurement, Smith Meter® brand

The Ultra 8c Ultrasonic Liquid Meter is a meter with four pairs of transducers, designed for Fiscal and Custody Transfer measurement of low to high viscosity crude oil and refined products, operating under low Reynolds number conditions (with dynamic profile compensation that allows extremely linear performance, from laminar to turbulent flow systems).

Its advanced multi-path measurement technology accurately resolves complex flow profiles while maintaining exceptional linearity and repeatability across a wide range of operating conditions. Ideal for compact installations, the equipment exceeds the most demanding industry specifications.
