Genesis Positive Displacement Meter

Manufacturing: Guidant Measurement, Smith Meter® brand

The Genesis Positive Displacement (PD) meter, available in 2" and 3" carbon steel models, is a single-case rotary vane meter. It was designed to meet the accuracy and reliability requirements of the custody transfer market. The equipment is ideal for applications such as blending biofuels and other refined products, including gasoline, diesel oil, ethanol, biodiesel, and jet fuel.

How it works

The Genesis meter is a rotary positive displacement meter that measures product flow and features an integrated electronic output. This allows for excellent linearity and repeatability across the entire measurement range, without the need for a separate pulse transmitter.

As the fluid passes through the meter, the rotor and vanes rotate around a fixed eccentric, causing the vanes to move alternately (reciprocal motion). This successive movement forms precisely sized "measurement chambers" between the two vanes, the rotor, the body, the bottom cover, and the top cover. A continuous series of these measurement chambers are generated as the rotor rotates. Neither the vanes nor the rotor come into contact with the stationary walls of the "measurement chamber."

applications

  • Measurement in blends of biofuels and refined products.
  • Applications with gasoline, ethanol, biodiesel and aviation kerosene.
  • Custody transfers that require high accuracy and reliability.

Technical specifications

  • Available models: 2" and 3" in carbon steel
  • Connections: ASME 150 2" and 3" flanges and DIN PN16 and PN25 (DN 50 and DN 75)
  • Maximum Working Pressure: 285 psig for ASME 150 flanges
  • Operating temperature range: -29°C to 65°C
  • Precision:
    • Repeatability +/- 0.01% and Linearity of +/- 0.075%, for the 15:1 range;
    • Repeatability +/- 0.02% and Linearity of +/- 0.10%, for the 30:1 range;
  • Flow rate range (turndown): Standard 15:1 linear performance, with 30:1 option, ideal for terminal mixing and low flow applications.

Advantages of the Genesis Meter

  • High accuracy: ideal for custody applications, with pulse output that allows excellent linearity and repeatability, without the need for a separate pulse transmitter.
  • Sealed design: eliminates the possibility of volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and the maintenance requirements of gaskets and gear trains.
  • Low wear: Horizontal shaft design with hybrid ceramic ball bearings and PEEK (polyetheretherketone) wear strips significantly reduces blade tip wear.
  • Compact and easy to install: The in-line installation design is simple, without the need for special measuring runs.
  • Versatile: The meter's accuracy applies to a variety of refined products, from ethanol to biodiesel, with viscosities up to 20 centistokes (cSt).

Certifications and compliance

  • Electrical approvals for hazardous areas: INMETRO / UL Brazil, UL/CUL (USA) and Canada), IECEx, ATEX (European Union)
  • Metrological certifications: INMETRO/Dimel Ordinance No. 172, of August 9, 2023; NTEP (USA), Canadian NOA (Canada), OIML R117-1, MID (European Union), NMI (Australia)
  • Safety and pressure standards: Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) of Europe and CRN (Canada)
  • Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC): in accordance with the European Union EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and EN 61326-1

Prime 4 Positive Displacement Meter

Manufacturing: Guidant Measurement, Smith Meter® brand

The PRIME 4 model Positive Displacement (PD) meter, made of carbon steel and available in a single 4" size, is a single-case rotary vane meter. Designed to meet the accuracy and reliability requirements of the custody transfer market, it features a design that undisturbs product flow during measurement, avoiding wasted energy due to unnecessary hydraulic bending of the liquid.

How it works

The PRIME 4 meter is a rotary positive displacement meter that measures product flow and features an integrated electronic output. The meter body, machined with high precision, contains a rotor rotating on tungsten carbide bearings and two evenly spaced polyketone vanes.

  • Custody transfer at loading terminals or pipelines
  • Measurement of liquid fuels and biofuels, such as: jet fuel, gasoline, diesel oil, biodiesel and ethanol
  • Mixing systems
  • Bidirectional flow lines in industrial facilities
  • Operations in classified areas with metrological reliability requirements

Technical specifications

  • Type: Rotary Positive Displacement Meter
  • Bidirectional flow: measures product flow in two directions
  • Process temperature range: -20°C to +93°C
  • Ambient temperature range: -50°C to +70°C
  • Reed material: Polyketone
  • Bearings: tungsten carbide
  • Precision:
    • Repeatability of +/- 0.02%
    • Linearity of +/- 0.15% in the normal flow range
    • Linearity of +/- 0.25% in the extended flow range

Advantages of the PRIME 4 Meter

  • High reliability: even in clean or poorly lubricated liquids
  • Accuracy in both flow directions: ideal for reversible systems
  • Extreme durability: robust design with low maintenance requirements
  • Safe installation: available with certification for explosive atmospheres
  • Optimized design: continuous measurement without hydraulic flow restrictions

Certifications and compliance

  • Classified area approvals: INMETRO / UL Brazil, ATEX and IECEx
  • Metrological certifications: Inmetro/Dimel Ordinance No. 154 From March 18, 2024, NTEP (US) CoC #96-099, Measurement Canada (Canada) NOA AV-2323, OIML R117 issued by NMi (Netherlands) and MID issued by PTB are available for the EU
  • Compliance with international standards: follows IEC 60079-0 7th Edition, EN 60079-0:2018; IEC 60079-1 7th Edition, EN 60079-1:2014; IEC 60079-11 6th Edition, EN 60079-11:2012 standards
