Microturbines: generating efficiency and sustainability for a clean energy future

Versatile, low-emission solution gains ground in a variety of applications, from cogeneration in sports centers to ensuring operations on offshore platforms and the exploration of innovative fuels.
Microturbinas: gerando eficiência e sustentabilidade para um futuro energético limpo

The growing demand for energy solutions that combine operational efficiency and environmental responsibility is driving the adoption of microturbines in multiple sectors. With silent operation, low environmental impact and distributed generation capacity, this technology has been consolidating itself as a promising alternative, especially in contexts where reliability and flexibility are essential.

Efficiency in action: from cogeneration to offshore applications

A concrete example of the value of microturbines is their application in cogeneration systems. At the Sports Training Center (CTE) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the installation of two Capstone model C65 microturbines will allow the use of waste heat to heat the Olympic swimming pool, resulting in significant savings in electricity costs and a more sustainable operation. The microturbines will also be used for academic studies by the Electrical Engineering department.

In the demanding oil and gas sector, Brava Energia, with technical support from FLUXO, is replacing one of its old Capstone C30 microturbines, which had been in operation since 2006, with a new Capstone C65 on the Peroá platform. The result will be a supply of more energy and lower maintenance costs.

“In offshore applications, space and reliability are critical factors. Capstone microturbines stand out for their robustness and lower maintenance compared to other alternatives.”

José Sueiro, Offshore Operations Manager at Brava Energia

Preparing for the future: microturbines and the energy transition

In line with global decarbonization trends, microturbines are gaining relevance due to their potential to operate with different types of fuels. A notable example is the SENAI initiative, which is evaluating the use of hydrogen in microturbines through tests with two Capstone C200S models. The project reinforces the strategic role of this technology in enabling innovative and sustainable energy solutions for the industrial sector.

Microturbines: a strategic solution for a new energy scenario

The growing adoption of microturbines in such diverse projects — from efficient cogeneration in sports centers to reliable power supply on offshore platforms — highlights the value of this technology in a market increasingly focused on performance and sustainability. By combining versatility, low environmental impact and the ability to operate with future fuels, microturbines are consolidating themselves as a key player in the energy transition. FLUXO, as a representative and distributor of Capstone Green Energy in Brazil, has been a protagonist in this transformation, delivering complete and customized solutions for different segments, and contributing decisively to a cleaner, more efficient and resilient energy future.
