Fluxo supplied Votorantim Metais with two Siemens/Controlotron 1010N meters for measuring the organic solution responsible for separating nickel from cobalt. Even with some attempts by Votorantim, no other meter worked satisfactorily for this application, due to the corrosiveness of the solution and the presence of calcium in the line. Within 15 to 20 days of installing the meters, a crust would form on the walls of the pipe and the insides of the meters, causing them to stop working and need to be replaced.
Siemens/Controlotron meters proved to be excellent for this application because, as they are clamp-on (non-intrusive) they are not affected by the corrosiveness of the organic solution or the presence of calcium in the line. Another important fact is that, as the meters do not need a straight section upstream and downstream, they were installed in easily accessible locations and without the need to install new pipes.
The meter supplied has been installed at Votorantim Metais for over four months, working perfectly and without the need for maintenance.
