Alderley secures contract award for the Produced Water Treatment System on P-82 FPSO

Alderley, a global leader in metering and produced water treatment solutions and FLUXO’s partner in the UK, has been awarded a contract by Sembcorp Marine (Singapore) for the supply of the Produced Water Treatment equipment on the Petrobras P-82 FPSO that will be located on the Buzios field, Presalt – Santos Basin.
As part of the award, Alderley will supply 5 off multi compartment hydrocyclone vessels, 2 off gas flotation units and associated critical items, and will provide project management, detailed engineering design inputs and the process guarantee.
The package will reduce the oil inlet concentration from 1,000 ppm to a guaranteed discharge maximum of 29 ppm, with a total package design flowrate of 33,600 m3/d. Alderley has a strong track record in the delivery of similar two-phase systems that utilise hydrocyclone and gas flotation technology.
The hydrocyclone vessels incorporate Alderley’s AP-20 Liquid/Liquid Hydrocyclone Liner. This is the latest design in hydrocyclone technology and it is one of the most efficient and compact liners available in the market, providing a very cost-effective solution within a small footprint to meet critical separation requirements.
The flotation system is a Gas Flotation Unit (GFU) which uses gas bubbles to further separate the oil from water. Thousands of small gas bubbles are introduced into the process fluid via two inlet nozzles to the GFU using eductors. The motive liquid for the eductors is provided by the produced water recirculated from the GFU while the suction gas is taken from the vessel headspace.
The two inlets enter the vessel opposite each other and induce a cyclonic motion which causes oil droplets to concentrate and coalesce as they rise through the GFU. With the gas evenly distributed through the produced water, the liquid moves through the flotation zone until it reaches the surface where reject oil is removed from the vessel via constant overflow into the oil collection section. This leaves cleaned water which exits the vessel via a side nozzle and is routed to the downstream equipment. The gas flotation units are designed with a liquid residence time of 10 minutes to enhance the oil separation and meet the discharge requirements.
