At the end of July, Fluxo Petróleo received the SA8000: 2001 certificate for social responsibility, granted by Social Accountability International (SAI), an organization that regulates the international standard SA8000. Efforts to implement the standard began in May last year. After a year of work, the certification company Det Norske Veritas (DNV) carried out the final audit and recommended Fluxo to receive the certificate, which arrived in two months.
From now on, Fluxo belongs to a select group recognized throughout the world of socially responsible companies, which ensure the well-being and moral and physical integrity of their employees. The year 2006 began with 764 companies certified in 47 countries. In Brazil, 83 companies have already obtained the SA8000 certificate. Fluxo is the eighth company from Bahia to acquire the certification.
The concept of a socially responsible company is one that is concerned with social and environmental issues: it supports the development of society, preserves the environment, invests in the well-being of its employees, promotes a healthy work environment, ensures synergy with its partners. and shareholders, and guarantees the satisfaction of its customers and consumers.
The achievement of the SA8000 certificate is not a goal, but a starting point for the continuation of management practices for social responsibility. Next November, DNV will return to the company to carry out the first semi-annual periodic audit. Fluxo's role now is to mobilize all those involved to continue and improve their conduct in the social area, both collectively and individually. The proposal does not stop at conducting the procedures and requirements required by the norm, it goes further, it involves encouraging everyone's cooperation and voluntary actions.
Some measures are taken by Fluxo with the intention of expanding its social and environmental actions. The monitoring of the students of the NGO Fazer Acabar is one of them. Fluxo has implemented a selective garbage collection program at the company and also provides its employees with a vaccination service against various diseases, including the flu.
