Rosemount Revolutionizes Tank Gauging System
Emerson and Rosemount launched this month in Brazil a new radar level measurement system: Raptor. The system is an evolution of the Rex radar, but uses new “future-ready” technology that helps refineries and storage plants meet increasingly demanding safety, efficiency and accuracy requirements.
Raptor is built from a new line of 0.5mm accurate radar gauges and ultra stable 3- or 4-wire multi-point temperature sensors. The result is the highest net volume calculation accuracy available for custody, inventory and loss management applications.
The system includes new safety technologies to help protect human lives, the environment and plant assets. One example is 2-in-1 functionality - two independent meters in a single compartment - providing SIL3 class overflow safety.
Raptor significantly reduces installation costs. The system uses a two-wire bus that not only carries the signal, but also powers all components. Another advantage is the ability to emulate systems from other manufacturers. Raptor can be added to old systems using pre-existing infrastructure.
The system is based on an open and expandable protocol. As a result, it's easy to install the devices you need today, with ample room for adding or replacing drives in the future. With Raptor, refineries and tank farms can easily become and remain efficient.
